KENT, Ohio The Kent State University gymnastics team will travel to Charles E. Smith Athletic Center this Friday to battle non-conference opponent, George Washington University
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS: Despite posting a season-high team composite score of 190.975, George Washington placed forth in its last meet that included; West Virginia, Ohio State and Iowa. The Colonials have 11 letterwinners returning from last season and are led by senior co-captain, Erin Aiken.
SERIES RECORDS: Kent State is undefeated (3-0) in the all-time series against George Washington.
GYMNASTICS VICTORIOUS IN MARATHON MEET: The Kent State University gymnastics team defeated league rival Ball State University Friday night with a score of 187.375, after almost three hours of competition. Ball State finished the meet with a mark of 184.275.
Sophomore Jill Kowalski led the way for the Flashes with the first all-around title of her career (38.025). Kowalski dominated the meet with a first place finish on beam (9.600), a second place finish on bars (9.525), and a third place mark of 9.55 on vault.
The Flashes had two other first place finishes on the night. Sophomore Kristin Peters scored a 9.7 on vault to earn the first place crown and senior Carrie Mayle took home the floor title with a mark of 9.700.
On top of grabbing four out of five titles in the meet; Kent State had a total of ten other top-five finishes. Sophomore Amy Presan had her best finish of the year on beam, earning a 9.550 to grab second place honors. Freshman Laci Hendress also finished in the top-five for the first time in her career with a score of 9.475 on the floor.
KOWALSKI NAMED KSU ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kent State University Athletics has chose sophomore Jill Kowalski as the Athlete of the Week for her performance on January 27 in the gymnastics teams victory over league-rival Ball State University Friday night (Jan. 27) with a score of 187.375-184.275.
Kowalski led the way for the Golden Flashes with the first all-around title of her career (38.025). The gymnast dominated the meet with a first-place finish on the beam (9.600), a second-place finish on bars (9.525) and a third-place mark of 9.55 on vault. She also finished eighth on the floor with a score of 9.35.
