Gymnastics Travels to Battle League Rival Central Michigan

KENT, Ohio The Kent State University gymnastics team travels to Mount Pleasant, Michigan this Friday to battle the Chippewas of Central Michigan. The Flashes have dropped eight dual-meets in a row against the 2005 MAC regular season champions. Both teams have had uncharacteristic starts in the MAC, each have posted a .500 record thus far. Central Michigan was projected to capture the MAC regular season title this year, while Kent State was billed to win the MAC tournament title.
SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS: Central Michigan is coming off a strong win against Ball State University, tallying their second best score of the year (192.375). Following this meet, sophomore Danielle Espinoza was named the MAC Specialist of the Week. Espinoza scored a career-best 9.875 to win on the floor and also won the beam crown with a mark of 9.800.
SERIES RECORDS: The Flashes lead the all-time series against the Chippewas 22-18.
DESPITE POSTING BEST SCORE OF THE YEAR, GYMNASTICS FALLS JUST SHORT OF GEORGE WASHINGTON: Unfortunately for the Kent State University gymnastics team, the day that they record their best team score of the year (192.375), George Washington did the same (192.600).
The Flashes had their best performance of the year thus far; tallying team season-highs on beam (48.15), floor (48.425) and total score (192.375). They also earned three of four event crowns and the all-around title.
Leading the charge once again for Kent State was sophomore Jill Kowlski. Kowalski claimed her second all-around title in as many meets with a composite score of 38.225. To compliment her all-around title; she had two top-five finishes, on bars (9.625) and beam (9.625) respectively.
Sophomore tri-captain, Kristin Peters, remained undefeated on the uneven bars for the year, earning her fourth title with a mark of 9.700. Fellow classmate Amy Presan took home her first beam crown of the season with a mark of 9.700. Finally, junior Amy Cucinotta shared first place on the floor exercise with the Colonials Erin Aiken; both notched a 9.800 on the event.
