Shearer Named to Two All-America Women's Basketball Teams

KENT, Ohio The honors and accolades continue to pour in for Kent State University senior womens basketball player Lindsay Shearer (Minerva, Ohio/Minerva). The Mid-American Conference Player of the Year was named to a pair of All-America Teams this past weekend at the Womens Basketball Coaches Association National Convention in Boston, Mass.
On Saturday, Apr. 1, Shearer was named to the 2006 NCAA Division I Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team as an honorable mention selection. The team was selected for the 32nd straight year, making it the longest running sponsorship in womens athletics. Shearer is the just the second Kent State player to be named to the Kodak/WBCA All-America Team joining Varsity K Hall of Famer Dawn Zerman, who was named to the team twice (1999, 2000).
Earlier in the week, Shearer was named to the Womens Basketball News Service All-America Third Team. Zerman (2000) and Amy Sherry (1995) have previsouly been honored by the WBNS.
Shearer has already accumulated a lengthy list of awards this postseason, including first-team all-conference honors for the third straight year in addition to being the MACs most valuable player. She also was named the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American of the Year and earned a spot on the Academic All-America First Team.
She led the league in scoring with a 20.8 points per game average and finished her career as the fourth leading scorer in school history with 1,799 points. She ranks in the top 10 in 10 different categories in school history and her 623 points in 2005-06 were the second most ever by a Kent State player She finished the campaign ranked among the league leaders in five categories and was the nations 12th-leading scorer and 15th-best free throw shooter.
