The program ran from June 14 to July 5 with the 100-member athletic department selling exclusively discounted tickets for the Minnesota (8/31), Akron (9/30) and Toledo (10/14) home games. The program was a tremendous success with the athletic department selling 4,744 tickets during the three-week campaign.
To generate excitement and competitiveness, prizes were given throughout the competition with a grand prize to the highest seller of two (2) round-trip Air Tran vouchers. We were thrilled with the response of the staff to help us sell tickets, stated Gail Moseley, Kent States ticket manager. With this being the first-year of the program, we were uncertain of the response and results and its a testament to Laing (Kennedy) and the camaderie within our department to rally around this program.
Expectations have quietly been building for the 2006 season, since the announcement of the home schedule which features a first-ever visit by a Big Ten foe with the Aug. 31 game against Minnesota, as well as home games against arch-rival Akron, Toledo (Homecoming), Ohio (10/28) and Eastern Michigan (11/18). Excitement has continued to increase with Phil Steeles 2006 College Football Preview, one of the premier preseason publications, predicting that Kent State will be one of the most-improved teams in the country, will win the Mid-American Conference East Division and play in the MAC championship game.
