Soccer Opens 2006 With Exhibition Win Over Slippery Rock

KENT, Ohio -- The Kent State soccer team took the field in a competitive situation for the first time this season, defeating Slippery Rock 3-0 in an exhibition contest behind a at the Kent State Soccer Field Thursday (Aug. 17).
Junior Lisa Kurz (Parma, Ohio/Normandy) scored a pair of goals to highlight the KSU offensive attack.
Kurz connected for the game's first goal on a free kick following a Slippery Rock penalty. Freshman Brittany Emrick (Clinton, Ohio/Norton) was taken down on a breakaway, resulting in the Flashes' free kick opportunity.
Kurz and also scored the final tally off an assist from freshman Emily Reno (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon).
Sophomore Caitlin Hester (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) also found the net, blasting in a feed from junior Brittany Fracasso (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth).
The Golden Flashes open the regular season next Friday, Aug. 25, at Ohio State.
