Gamewinner in final minute of play gives KSU second straight win
DeKALB, Ill. - Red-shirt sophomore Catharine Marosszeky (Aurora, Ontario / Cardinal Center) beat the clock scoring in the 109th minute and sent Kent State to a 1-0 double overtime win at Northern Illinois this afternoon in women's soccer action. The Golden Flashes won their second straight game for the first time this season as they improved to 2-1 in the Mid American Conference and 4-5-1 for the year. With the loss the Huskies fell to 1-2 in the MAC and 4-4-2 overall.
Marosszeky provided KSU with the game winning goal for the second consecutive game, notching her second goal of the year off an assist from senior Lisa Kurz (Parma, Ohio / Normandy).
With only 39 seconds left in the second overtime of the match the Marosszeky put the game away with a shot from just inside the box, which deflected off an NIU defender and wound up in the back of the net for the match's lone goal.
Junior goalkeeper Kris Nelson (Springboro, Ohio / Springboro), recorded her second shutout of the year making the save on the Huskies only shot on goal. NIU held an 8-6 advantage in shots taken for the game and corner kicks were even at nine each.
KSU returns wraps up a five game road stretch on Sunday at Western Michigan in a 12:00 pm start.
