Kent State defeated the University at Buffalo Bulls 3-0 on Tuesday (11/13) evening at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio in the first round of the 2007 Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Golden Flashes won by scores of 30-19, 30-11, and 30-14.
Seniors Anja Knabe-Paulsen (Schwarzenbek, Germany/Darlington School) and Anne Zakelj (Willoughby, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and freshman Lauren Jones (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) led the Kent State attack. Knabe-Paulsen notched a team-high 12 kills with two service aces while hitting at .500. Zakelj totaled 10 kills with two blocks while hitting a team-leading .562. Jones had 10 kills with three blocks, four service aces, and hit .500.
Senior libero Laura Jensen (Apple Valley, Minn./Burnsville) registered 20 digs for the Flashes to take over sole possession of fourth place on the MAC Career List.
Sophomore setter Katie Veatch (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) notched ateam-high 35 assists for KSU.
As a team, Kent State had a total of eight hitting errors while totaling 50 kills and hitting at .420.
The Golden Flashes (21-9, 12-5 MAC), who won the first post-season match for Kent State since 2004, to move on to the quarterfinals and a match-up with the Bowling Green State University Falcons at 5 p.m. on Friday (11/16) at the SeaGate Centre in Toledo, Ohio.
