Oxford, Ohio - Kent State Head Coach Kathleen Schanne earned Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year honors, while forward Rachel Miller captured Freshman of the Year honors as announced by the conference office Thursday night (Nov. 1) during the 2007 MAC Field Hockey Banquet at Miami University.
Miller was joined by senior midfielder Charlotte Muller on the All-MAC First Team, while Anna McComb, Kara Copeland and Allison Kittelberger earned spots on the All-MAC Second Team.
Leading the Golden Flashes in points (32), goals (12) and assists (8) during the regular season, Miller has notched a goal or an assist in 12 games this season. Her 12 goals scored are more than any MAC freshman in each of the past two seasons.
Muller, who was recently picked to play in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game, earned her third straight first team honor. The team captain tallied five goals and four assists during the regular season and helped the Flashes hold opponents to under one goal a game in KSU's 12 victories.
McComb, also a senior midfielder, scored three goals and added one assist during the regular season. She is one of seven Flashes to have started in all 20 games.
Copeland, a senior goalkeeper, finished the regular season second in the MAC in wins (12) and shutouts (4) and ranked third in goals against average (2.01).
Kittelberger, a sophomore midfielder, ranked second on the team with five assists and scored two goals in conference play.
Schanne was named Coach of the Year in just her second season as a head coach. She helped the Golden Flashes improve from a 3-7 fifth place MAC finish in 2006, to a 7-3 second place mark in 2007.
Kent State will begin its quest for a fifth MAC Tournament title in the last 10 years Friday (Nov. 2) taking on tournament host Miami at 2:30 p.m in the semifinals.
