Freshman softball pitcher Kylie Reynolds (Greensboro, Ga./Morgan County) has been named Kent State Athlete of the Week. Reynolds has been dominant in her last five outings at both the USF Speedline Tournament in Tampa, Fla and the Stetson Classic in Deland, Fla.
In three appearances at Stetson, Reynolds went 3-0 helping the Golden Flashes to victories over Princeton, Stetson and Cornell. A weekend workhorse in the circle, she tossed 22.2 innings and struck out 40 batters. Reynolds allowed just one walk and one run for a weekend ERA of 0.31.
Reynolds threw a complete game shutout and fanned 16 in a victory over Cornell on Mar. 24. One day earlier, she tossed a three-hit shutout vs. Princeton and struck out 12.
On March 17, Reynolds went the distance in a 10-inning game and earned the victory as the Golden Flashes downed Long Island 4-3. The rookie struck out 16 batters and allowed just two earned runs on four hits and two walks.
The very next day Reynolds tossed 4.1 innings of relief and allowed just one earned run against Wisconsin. She fanned 10 Badgers and did not surrender a walk. In that game, Reynolds reached the 100-strikeout mark faster than any pitcher in KSU history.
In her last five outings, Reynolds is 4-0 with 66 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched.
