Flashes sweep Falcons to start MAC schedule 2-0

Kent State opened the 2007 Mid-American Conference schedule with a sweep of a pair games from host Bowling Green State University, 3-1 and 4-2, on Friday (3/30) afternoon.
In the first game, freshman Kylie Reynolds (Greensboro, Ga./Morgan County) outdueled BG's Hayley Wiemer limiting the Falcons to four hits and one run while striking out five in a complete game victory. Reynolds' win raised her season record to 7-4 overall.
Junior outfielder Kim Hamilton (Cave Junction, Or./Illinois Valley) gave the Golden Flashes an early 1-0 lead when she reached on a walk. She stole second and scored on a single by senior Brittney Robinson (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone) in the top of the fourth inning.
BG tied the score in the bottom of the fifth when Dawnjene DeLong reached after being hit by a pitch. She scored on a double to center by Jeanine Baca.
KSU regained the lead in the top of the sixth when Hamilton belted a solo home run to left centerfield.
The Golden Flashes extended their lead with another run in the top of the seventh when junior Corey Houk (Hebron, Ohio/Lakewood) walked, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a single to left by senior third baseman Megan Verde (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson).
In the finale, Robinson gave the Golden Flashes a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of the first.
KSU increased its advantage to 2-0 in the top of the third when freshman Alyssa Frobase (Curtice, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) smacked the first home run of her collegiate career over the leftfield wall.
Bowling Green cut the deficit to one when Wiemer hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
Robinson belted her second home run of the game, a two-run clout, to give the Flashes a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth.
Wiemer hit her second solo home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 4-2.
Robinson earned her sixth victory of the season in allowing three hits, two runs, and striking out five in a complete game victory.
Kent State (15-11, 2-0 MAC) travels to Toledo, Ohio for single games on Saturday (3/31) and Sunday (4/1) against the University of Toledo.
