Peters and Cucinotta Earn Individual Medals but Team Falls Short at MAC Championship

Despite winning three of the five individual titles available, the Kent State University gymnastics team finished second today at the MAC Gymnastics Championship. First place was taken by the host team,
The Flashes were paced by junior tri-captain Kristin Peters who captured first place medals on both bars and beam. Her victory on bars was earned with a 9.875 effort, while the beam title came with a 9.900 performance. Senior Amy Cucinotta also earned an individual title with a 9.850 first place effort on floor. Both of these gymnasts were named to the All-MAC first team.

The Flashes earned the top team score on beam where they tallied a season high 49.000. The Flashes placed four gymnasts in the top-ten on the event. Junior Amy Presan finished right behind Peters in second place, notching a 9.850. Freshman Carly Conroy finished in fifth place with a career-high mark of 9.800. Junior tri-captain Jill Kowalski rounded out the top-ten finishers for KSU with a score of 9.750, which earned her a seventh place finish.

The Flashes will now wait to see if they qualify for Central Regional competition which takes place on April 14th at 2:00 p.m. If the entire team does not qualify Peters and some of her teammates should earn a space in that competition.
