Women's Basketball and Athletic Department Raise over $4,000 for the Fight Against Cancer

The Kent State University women's basketball team and the KSU athletic department joined together to raise over $4,000 for the Relay For Life that took place on the Small Group Track over the weekend of April 28th. This year marked the fifth Relay For Life held on the
Relay For Life is a 24-hour event that celebrates cancer survivorship and raises money for the American Cancer Society and cancer research. It's held nationwide, where teams gather at various locations, taking turns walking and/or running laps to raise money.

This year, along with the athletic department's help with Jock Jams and Change for Charity, they received recognition as a silver level team from the Relay For Life committee. Out of the 79 groups present at the event, they were one of the top-ten fundraising teams.
“We have received a lot of positive feedback from the community about Jock Jams, it has been wonderful,” explained Associate Head Coach of Women's Basketball Lori Bodnar. “The athletic department has been very strong in their commitment to the fight against cancer and to everyone who has been effected it.”
While the event is so important to everyone in the community, it takes on special meaning for the women's basketball team. “Women's Basketball is very committed to raising money for the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life,” Bodnar said. “With the fight of one of our former student-athletes and the loss of our co-workers Mike Drake and Isaac Perkins we feel it is important to come out and honor them at this event.”
