Water Street Tavern, Kent State Sports Insider Form Partnership

KENT - The Water Street Tavern, located at 132 S. Water St. in downtown Kent, will host the weekly radio show “Kent State Sports Insider” for the next three years.

“To have a home for the next three years is a great benefit to our fans, who can come to the show and really get inside Kent State sports,” Bill Needle, the Voice of the Kent State Golden Flashes, said.

The show will air Thursday nights starting in August on 1350 AM and continue throughout Kent State's winter athletic schedule.

“Kent State Sports Insider” broadcast location rotated weekly in prior seasons, but the Water Street Tavern gives the show a new home where all will feel welcome.

“Our blue and gold decor, retired jerseys on the wall, along with the expansion's stage, expanded seating and great food from Mugzee's Wings all make for what we believe will be a great backdrop to Bill's show,” Mike Beder, owner of the Water Street Tavern said.

Beder, a Kent State alum, says he is proud to have a place where Kent State sports can be celebrated by its community of supporters. The show fit well into Water Street Tavern's plans, Beder said. The tavern also fit nicely in helping Needle further establish the six-year-old show as a part of Kent State life. The Water Street Tavern is working with Mugzee's Wings to offer an all-you-can-eat wing special during the show.

“For years, Water Street has been the center of activity for Kent State students. Now the Water Street Tavern will be the center of activity for Kent State Athletics,” Needle added.
