Kent State Plays Maryland to 1-1 Tie

Golden Flashes draw even in their first overtime game of the year
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Kent State University soccer team was outshot 33-5, but played host Maryland to a 1-1 draw in double overtime earlier today at Ludwig Field. The outcome puts the Golden Flashes at 2-4-1 on the year as they ended a three game winning streak for the Terps leaving them at 4-1-2.
Senior Kimberly Dimitroff (Oakville, Ontario / Iroquois Ridge) gave KSU a 1-0 in the 58th minute off a through pass from junior Caitlin Hester (Worthington, Ohio / Thomas Worthington). The goal was Dimitoff's second of the season.
Maryland would even the game at 75:39 when Ashly Kennendy knocked in a loose ball off a free kick. The score would remain tied through the remained of the game and two 10 minute overtime periods.
KSU junior keeper Kris Nelson (Springboro, Ohio / Springboro), made eight saves in goal. The Golden Flashes earned the tie after withstanding a Maryland attack in the 108th minute when one shot attempt was blocked and the follow by Emily Maynard hit the post.
Freshman Kelly Heaton (Mississauga, Ontario / Our Lady-Mt. Carmel) took the only other shot on goal for KSU.
The Terps also held a 16-1 edge in corner kicks.
KSU begins Mid-American Conference play at 4:00 pm on Friday at Ohio.
