Kent State Looks To Stay Undefeated At Home This Weekend

A perfect 3-0 at home this season, the Golden Flashes host game No. 100 at the KSU Soccer Field this weekend. Kent State welcomes Central Michigan on Friday in the 100th home game in KSU history before Eastern Michigan pays a visit to Kent on Sunday.

No. 100 At The KSU Soccer Field
The Oct. 10 game against Central Michigan marks the 100th home game at the KSU Soccer Field for the Golden Flashes. Home to the program the inception in 1997, Kent State has gone 62-33-4 (.646) at home, including a perfect 3-0 record this season.
Tracking Central Michigan
The Chippewas are a stellar 4-0-0 in the MAC this season and have yet to allow a goal in league play. Anchored by GK Shay Mannino, who has a 0.36 GAA in 11 games this season, CMU has won four straight overall. Kent State owns a 6-4-2 advantage in the head-to-head series, including two straight home wins.
Tracking Eastern Michigan
With a 7-3-3 overall record, the Eagles moved to 2-1-1 in the MAC following a 0-0 tie vs Northern Illinois and a 2-0 win over Western Michigan last weekend. Chelsea Detrick leads the MAC with nine goals scored this season.
Despite a 4-0-0 record at home against EMU, KSU still trails the all-time series 5-7-0.
L.A. Making them Count
Sophomore L.A. Thoma has attempted just our shots this season, but she had made them count with three goals scored. Thoma tied for the team lead when she scored her third goal of the year last Friday at Miami.
The previous weekend she again capitalized on her scoring opportunities. After checking into the game against Ohio on Sept 26 at 23:18 in the first half she quickly found the back of the net at 24:37. In the second half she subbed in at 59:39 and proceeded to score again at 60:16.
Heating Up at Home
The Golden Flashes have become quite partial to the friendly confines of the KSU Soccer Field this season having scored 10 of the 14 goals this season at home. Kent State is averaging 3.33 goals per game at home compared to a 0.50 averaged on the road.
KSU has won five of the last six at home dating back to the 2007 season.
Kent State Reaches Win No. 100
The Golden Flashes claimed the 100th win in program history on Sept. 28 vs Akron.
Now in the 12th season Kent State owns a 100-102-21 all-time record.
Messer's Magic continues
Three career goals, three career game winners. When sophomore Annie Messer scores a goal she makes them count. Messer's second goal of the season against Akron on Sept. 28 proved to be the game winner in a 4-1 decision. All three of the second year forward's career goals have come as the game winning variety. Messer had her streak of four consecutive games with a point scored end at Ball State on Oct. 5.
Heaton - MAC Player of the Week
Sophomore Kelly Heaton earned MAC Player of the Week (Sept. 29) honors following her six point performance which led the Golden Flashes to a pair of wins.
Against Ohio she assisted on the game winning goal with a well placed corner kick. She followed up her performance against Akron with two goals and an assist.
Heaton leads Kent State with eight total points this season, producing three goals and two assists.
Dishing Them Out
Following her three assist performance against Akron on Sept. 28, senior Caitlin Hester now leads the MAC with five assists this season. Hester, who equaled the KSU single game assist mark (Lisa Kurz, vs Ohio 12/21/05), now has 11 career assists and is tied for second on the team with seven points this season.
