Kent State Athletes Hit The Lanes For Kids Sake

Bragging rights were on the line for 19 Kent State athletes who lent a helping hand to children in the community in the 2008 Big Brothers and Sisters Bowl For Kids Sake. Led by president Matt Muller and vice president Catharine Marosszeky, the KSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council organized teams to compete in the event. SAAC contributed $400 to the fundraising campaign in an effort to recruit mentors for youth in Portage County. An impressive number of athletes participated in the event despite so many teams being out of town or competing, and everyone took turns and had a good time battling with each other for bowling supremacy.
Athletes from the four different teams had an enjoyable afternoon filled with pizza, prizes, and, of course, bowling at AMF Twinstar Lanes in Kent. Sophomore football player Will Kandray directed teammates Giorgio Morgan, Prishod Koonce, Jon Simpson, Andrew Hill and Leneric Muldrow. Kaitlin and Annie Messer, along with Marosszeky, Jessica Brickman, Megan Hill, and Josee Charron led the charge for the soccer team. A young but talented group of field hockey players made up of Kara Rhodenbaugh, Stephanie Arbelaez, Caroline Suitch, Bryn Stevens and Stephanie Bernthal made their presence felt. Wrestler and dedicated SAAC newcomer Obie Simpson proudly represented the wrestling team.
SAAC would like to thank the athletic department for its support in this fun community service event. Highlights from the event can be seen on the Jim Christian show next Wednesday, March 5, at 7 p.m. on SportsTime Ohio. Check listings.
