Flashes defeat Eastern Michigan 195.750 to 192.650 to clinch MAC regular season title

Kent State completed the 2008 Mid-American Conference schedule undefeated with a 195.750 to 192.650 defeat of visiting Eastern Michigan University on Friday (3/21) evening in the M.A.C. Center. The Golden Flashes team total was a season-high besting to previous top team score (195.600) which Kent State registered against George Washington University on February 8.

Opening on vault, the Golden Flashes took the top two spots as freshman Christina Lenny (9.875) and sophomore Brittany Kopp (9.850) led the way for KSU.

Kent State continued its dominance on bars as the Flashes took the top three spots as senior Jill Kowalski (9.850), classmate Amy Presan (9.800), and junior Laci Hendress (9.750) helped KSU take 97.700 to 97.100 lead after two rotations. The mark of 9.850 tied a career-best for Kowalski.

Kowalski earned a career-high 9.875 on beam to finish first while Presan tied a career-best and finished second with a mark of 9.850. Hendress and Lenny tied for fifth with 9.775 routines. The mark was a career-best for Lenny.

Kent State increased its lead to 146.725 to 145.275 after three rotations.

Junior Rachel Stuck completed the Golden Flashes sweep of the top spot in all four events as she won the floor exercises, tying a career-high score of 9.900. Hendress finished second with a score of 9.825.

With the win, the 2008 senior class finishes with a MAC dual meet record of 20-4. The .833 winning percentage is the best in school history and the 20 wins ties the class of 1998.

Kent State (11-3, 6-0 MAC) hosts the 2008 MAC Gymnastics Championships on at the M.A.C. Center beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday (3/29).
