Kent State Soccer Adds Four

Golden Flashes welcome four newcomers for 2008 season
KENT, Ohio - Kent State women's soccer Head Coach Rob Marinaro has announced the signing of four newcomers to the program. Hannah Johnson (Medina, Ohio / Medina), Jennifer Stapleton (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany), Gabrielle Ingram (Indianapolis, Ind. / North Central) and Vanessa Salerno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Michael Power) will all join the Golden Flashes as freshmen in the fall of 2008.
“I'm extremely thrilled about the combination of speed, skill and ability these four bring to the program,” said Mariano, “On top of their overall talent, I'm even more thrilled about their achievements as student-athletes in the classroom.”
Johnson was a four-year letter winner at Medina High School, producing 20 goals, 23 assists and 63 points. Last season she was named All-Conference, All-County and All-District while leading Medina to a runner-up finish in the North East Ohio (Valley Division) Conference and District semi-finals.
A four year Honor Roll selection she was also a member of the National Honor Society as a junior and senior.
Stapleton comes to Kent from New Albany High School in Central Ohio where she was team captain and MVP as a senior. Last season she was named First Team All-OCC (Ohio Capital Conference) and Second Team All-Central District while scoring 10 goals and adding four assists.
Her club team, Ohio Premier captured the 2001 and 2003 State Cup Championship, as well as the 2005 US Club Ohio State Club Title
Ingram was an Academic All-Conference member all four years while leading North Central to a 59-22-5 overall record during her career. Playing both midfielder and defender she was named First Team All-State and also took home All-Region, All-County, All-District and ISCA All-Academic accolades.
Last season she helped North Central to a regional championship after take the team to a state runner-up finish her junior year. Dynamo '90, her club team, won the Indian State Championship in 2006.
Salerno played defense for the U17 Dixie Saints Soccer Club for five years. Her team won numerous titles, including the 2007 Champions of the Score at the Shore Championship Level North Carolina; 2007 Champions of the KISS College Showcase Gold Division Michigan; 2007 Champions of the Crossroads of America College Showcase Group One Indiana; 2006 Champions of the Orange Classic International Millennium Division Florida; 2006 Champions of the Kirkwood Showcase Gold Division Delaware; 2006 Champions of the MAPS Showcase Diamond Division New Jersey; runners up at the Ontario Cup finals
Marinaro concluded, “I am confident that with this group of freshman will continue to grow and I look forward to them joining our program.”
