CLEVELAND, Ohio With the 2008 season completed, the Golden Flashes continue to flex their muscles in the Mid-American Conference. Three Kent State gymnasts were named to the Academic All-MAC Team, the most-represented school in the conference.
“We're very pleased three of our gymnasts have received this honor,” said Head Coach Brice Biggin. “It shows that we can compete at a high level not only on the mats, but in the classroom.”
An Integrated Health Sciences major, sophomore Lydia Barrett (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) had the highest cumulative grade-point average (3.97) of the eight gymnasts named to the squad. At the MAC Championship meet (3-29), Barrett earned a score of 9.750 to win on bars.
Junior Laci Hendress (Wolcott, Ind./Tri-County), a Biology/Pre-Pharmacy Major, was named to the team with an overall GPA of 3.94. For the season, Hendress finished sixth in the conference on floor with a regional qualifying score of 9.790 on floor and seventh on beam with an average of 9.760.
Junior Rachel Stuck (Erie, Pa./Fairview) was also named to the Academic All-MAC team. Stuck, an Early Childhood Education major, has a 3.500 cumulative GPA. At the MAC Championships, Stuck gave KSU their fifth consecutive championship on floor, completing a routine of 9.900.
