Kyle Smith is Cape Cod League Pitcher of Week

ORLEANS, Mass. - Kent State right-hander Kyle Smith (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville Senior) was named the prestigous Cape Cod League's Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week for action during the week of July 14-20.
Smith had two starts this week, one on July 13th vs. Bourne and another on July 19th against Cotuit. Between the two outings, Smith tossed 14 scoreless innings and picked up a win in both, helping the Cardinals to a current seven-game winning streak. He allowed just four hits and struck out 12 while walking five. He is now 3-1 on the season with a 3.86 ERA the wood-bat Cape League.
Smith, who shared the honor with Arizona State's Seth Blair, was KSU's leader in victories during the 2008 season with nine. He was 9-1 in 14 starts for the Golden Flashes and had an ERA of 5.76. He struck out 65 in 75 innings of work. He was 5-0 in Mid-American Conference action.
Coca Cola presents a Player and Pitcher of the Week award for each week of the Cape Cod Baseball League regular season. Smith is the first Cardinals player to be recognized this season with the award. Orleans leads the league with a 21-9-1 mark.
