Sutton Earns Distinguished Coaching Certification

KENT, Ohio - Kent State Assistant Coach Rich Sutton recently earned Level 3 Coaching Accreditation from the USA Field Hockey Coaching Association. Sutton became one of the first 10 coaches in the nation to earn the highest level of accreditation.
After finishing his third season on the Kent State staff, Sutton is now eligible to work with the USA national and junior national teams. He is also eligible to earn FIH accreditation from the International Hockey Federation.
The USA Field Hockey Coaching Accreditation Program began in 2007 to help standardize coaching in the United States and to hold coaches to a level of accountability for keeping up with the development of the sport. The comprehensive program requires a 20-hour course with both a theory and practical presentation.
Sutton's theory presentation was "Group & Individual Cues that are Conducive to the Application of Full Pressure" and his practical was demonstrating and improving "re-directions" a scoring skill that is deficient in the U.S. collegiate game.
This past season, Sutton helped the Golden Flashes to a 17-5 finish, the program's best record since 2000. KSU also captured Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament titles.
