Flashes Visit West-Leading Cardinals Wednesday

Coming off its best defensive effort of the season, Kent State (16-5, 5-4) visits MAC West co-leader Ball State (15-8, 7-2) Wednesday night (Feb. 11) at Worthen Arena. The Golden Flashes look to change their road fortunes in the MAC, where they are 1-3.
• On Saturday, KSU held Northern Illinois to 50 points, the lowest total by a MAC opponent this season. The Huskies were also held to just 28.6% shooting from the field, the lowest percentage by any Kent State opponent since 2007.
• Tied for second place in the MAC East, the Flashes have seven regular season games remaining in their battle for a first round bye at the 2009 MAC Tournament.
• Anna Kowalska recorded her seventh double-double of the season (19 pts., 13 rebs.) Saturday, while Jamilah Humes finished with 17 points and eight rebounds.
• The Golden Flashes rank third in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (.408). Six KSU players have drained 10 or more threes.
• Kent State leads the all-time series with Ball State 34-11, but the Cardinals have won the last three meetings in Muncie. Last February, Rachel Bennett led both sides with 21 points as the Flashes downed Ball State 69-54 at the M.A.C. Center.
• The Cardinals are 10-1 at Worthen Arena this season, including wins by eight or more points over Miami, Toledo and Central Michigan.

A QUICK LOOK AT BALL STATE
Returning seven letterwinners and three starters from a team that finsihed tied for first in the MAC West (11-5) last season, the Cardinals were picked finish first in the MAC's preseason poll. Thus far, Ball State has lived up to its billing, going 7-2 in conference play, with its only setbacks coming on the road.
Ball State leads the MAC in field goal shooting (.441) and ranks 16th in the nation in free throw shooting (.753). Five Cardinals are averaging 9.9 points or better per game in MAC play.
Senior guard Porchia Green and sophomore forward Emily Maggert were each named to the Preseason All-MAC Team. Maggert ranks 35th in the nation in field goal percentage (.536) and 77th in free throw percentage (.814). She also leads the Cardinals in scoring (14.0 ppg). Maggert and Green are each pulling down 6.3 boards per game.
Green leads the team with 42 steals and is 10th in the MAC with 3.91 assists per game. Sophomore guard Kiley Jarrett's 5.5 assists per contest leads the conference and ranks 24th in the nation. Junior guard Audrey McDonald's 2.7 three-pointers per game ranks 15th in the nation.
On Saturday, Ball State shot 56 percent form the field in an 83-62 road win over Buffalo. Six Cardinals scored nine or more points. Green finished with 15 points, eight assists, six rebounds and five steals.
