Kent State sweeps Gymnast of the Week Awards

Kent State's gymnastics team swept the Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week honors as sophomore Christine Abou-Mitri (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was named Co-Gymnast of the Week and junior Lydia Barrett (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) was selected as the Specialist of the Week for their performances in the Golden Flashes' victory over Bowling Green State University on Saturday (2/7) as announced by the conference office on Tuesday (2/10). Abou-Mitri shared her selection with Holly Reichard of Northern Illinois University.

In a meet with Bowling Green (2/7), Abou-Mitri won the all-around with a total of 39.000 points as the Golden Flashes won the meet 194.550-192.600. She tied Brianne Guy of Bowling Green for the top spot on beam with a score of 9.825. Abou-Mitri currently ranks third in the Mid-American Conference on bars (9.745), fourth in the all-around (38.819), eighth on beam (9.619), 10^th on vault (9.730), and 18^th on floor (9.635). Her all-around RQS also ranks 12th regionally.

Barrett won on vault (9.825) and tied teammate Laci Hendress for the top spot on floor (9.825). She currently ranks sixth on bars (9.710), ninth on floor (9.740), and 16^th on vault (9.670) in the Mid-American Conference individual rankings.

Kent State (5-3 overall, 2-0 MAC) hosts the University of Maryland and MAC foe Central Michigan University at 1 p.m. on Sunday (2/15) in the M.A.C. Center.
