KENT, Ohio - The Golden Flashes begin their home portion of their 2009 baseball schedule when they face the Ashland Eagles (Tues., March 17) and the Duquesne Dukes (Wed., March 18) for a pair of midweek games. First pitch for both games at Schoonover Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m.
KSU and the Eagles have faced each other 49 times in their history with Kent State leading the all-time series 30-18-1. However, both teams have not squared off since the 1982 campaign when Kent State won 9-7.
Kent State also battles Duquesne on Wednesday. The teams have played 26 times with Kent State holding a 17-9 advantage. The Golden Flashes and Dukes split a pair of games last year, both of which were filled with offense. Kent State won the battle at Schoonover 18-10 while Duquesne got revenge on their field 18-9. In the two games, Jason Patton went 3-for-6 with one home run, three RBI and one run scored. It would be the only home run of in 2008 for Patton.
Also, Greg Rohan hit three doubles in seven at-bats with five RBI and three runs scored last season against Duquesne.
The pair of mid-week games against the Eagles and Dukes kicks off a seven-game home stand. This includes a weekend series with Mid-American Conference-rival Eastern Michigan Friday-Sunday (March 20-22), Penn State Tuesday (March 24) and Niagara Wednesday (March 25). For the season, every home game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start time with exception of games on Saturday or Sunday (first pitch will be 1 p.m. on weekends).
