COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Stephen F. Austin and Texas A & M kept Kent State's offense quiet Saturday (March 7) as the Golden Flashes (5-9) dropped two on the second day of the Aggie Invitational. Lauren Luetge's perfect game helped Stephen F. Austin to a 2-0 win, while the 17th ranked Aggies topped the Flashes 5-0.
"We're putting the bat on the ball, but we're not hitting it hard," Head Coach Karen Linder said. "We're not hitting line drives and we're not putting it in the gaps."
Although Luetge retired 21 straight KSU batters, only six Flashes were strikeout victims.
"She forced a lot of ground balls," Linder said. "We hit it right at them a lot and they played good defense."
The Ladyjacks scored both runs in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homer and a pair of singles. Markie Pozzuto tossed the first 4.1 innings in Saturday's first game, while Kylie Reynolds threw the final 1.2 frames, striking out five.
Reynolds then got the start against Texas A&M and allowed just one hit in the first three innings. The Aggies poked three singles in the fourth, but left the bases loaded to keep the game scoreless.
"Kylie pitched really well today," Linder said. "She had a few tough breaks with walks in the fifth."
A pair of leadoff Aggie walks in the fifth led to three runs. Texas A & M then scored twice in the sixth on three hits.
Leah Archual and Heather Duhon each had hits. Reynolds fanned 10 and walked two.
The Golden Flashes will play their fifth and final game of the Aggie Invitational Sunday against Utah, who blanked KSU 9-0 on Friday.
