Utah Blanks Flashes 5-0

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Kent State continued to struggle at the plate Sunday (March 7) in a 5-0 loss to Utah on the final day of the Aggie Invitational. The Utes out-hit the Golden Flashes 7-2, including a two-run homer in the top of the first.
Utah added a run in the second on two hit-by-pitches and two base on balls. Three Ute singles in the fourth led to another run and a sixth inning double gave Utah the five-run advantage.
"We just didn't respond offensively," Head Coach Karen Linder said.
The Flashes best chance to respond came in the sixth with two on and one out, but Jess Carmichael flied out to left field and Jess Blanton lined out to right.
"Hitting is about confidence and rhythm," Linder said. "We had better at bats today, but since our long layoff, we still haven't found that continuity."
Kylie Reynolds threw the first six innings and struck out three, while Markie Pozzuto tossed the seventh inning.
Carmichael and Lauren Brocklehurst each had singles on Sunday and Heather Duhon made a pair of diving catches at second base. Brocklehurst made an over-the-shoulder catch in left.
The Golden Flashes (5-10) will play five games in three days once again next weekend at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational (March 13-15) in Rock Hill, S.C.
