Pair of Kent State Wrestlers Take Third, Two Others Place

LAS VEGAS Redshirt freshmen Dustin Kilgore (84 KG/185 pounds) and Brendan Barlow (120 KG/264.5 pounds) both placed third in their respective weight classes at the 2009 FILA Junior Freestyle Tournament this past weekend in Las Vegas.
Kilgore recorded a 5-1 record in his weight class to finish third. He advanced to the semifinals of the championship bracket before being pinned by Quentin Wright of Penn State. In his two matches in the wrestleback brackets, Kilgore came from behind to finish third. He defeated Luke Rebertus of the Navy Mat Club 5-6. 6-0, 2-0 before defeating Josh Ihnen of Nebraska extreme 1-7, 5-4, 2-1.
Barlow finished 4-1 in his matches to take third. He also advanced to the semifinals before losing to Dominique Bradley of Sunkist Kids 1-1, 0-1. He rebounded in the wrestlebacks with wins over Atticus Disney of Minnesota Storm 0-1, 1-1, 1-0 and Cameron Wade of Penn State 1-0, 1-0.
Freshmen Troy Opfer and Mallie Shuster also placed in their weight classes. Opfer took eighth at 55 KG/121.5 pound when he lost to Joe Trause of Cavalier WC 0-2, 0-6. Shuster finished 5-3 at 70 KG/154.25 pounds, losing 4-4, 2-2 where both periods went to tie-breaker.
