CLEVELAND, Ohio - Kent State's Ashlee Hein (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week Tuesday (April 7) after launching home runs in three different Kent State victories. The sophomore catcher hit .462 (6-for-13) in five games with eight runs batted in.
Hein homered in a pair of MAC wins at Miami on April 3. Her two-run round-tripper in game one against the RedHawks helped the Flashes to a 5-4 victory. In game two, she blasted a three-run homer that gave the Flashes the lead for good (5-3) in a 9-5 win. The KSU cleanup hitter also smashed a two-run shot against Robert Morris that highlighted a six-run first inning in an 11-0 win.
With three walks on the week, Hein carried a .588 on-base percentage to go with a 1.154 slugging percentage. She is the second Golden Flash in as many weeks to earn MAC East Player of the Week accolades. Leah Archual claimed the honor last week.
In 25 games played, Hein leads the Golden Flashes with four homers, 13 RBI and 12 base on balls. She has also helped KSU to a 4-1 start in conference play, which puts the Flashes in first place atop the East Division standings.
Kent State (13-16) is scheduled to take on a pair of MAC East opponents this weekend beginning with a doubleheader against Ohio Friday, April 10.
