Chafin Named ABCA All-Mideast Region Team

ATHENS, Ohio - Freshman Andrew Chafin, (Wakeman, Ohio/Collins Western Reserve) was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Mideast Region Second Team as a relief pitcher Wednesday (June 17).
Chafin went 4-1 on the year with eight saves in 35.2 innings pitched. His 1.26 ERA led the all pitchers in the Mid-American Conference and is second in KSU history for a single season.
His 55 strikeouts led all relief pitchers in the conference. He was second in the MAC with eight saves, the sixth most in a single season in school history.
In his first collegiate appearance, Chafin threw two scoreless innings and only allowed one walk while striking out four against UNC Greensboro (Feb. 21). He also won his first collegiate start, allowing only one run and three hits while striking out five over five innings against Winthrop (Feb. 27). Chafin struck out a career-high seven batters in a three-inning save against Northern Illinois (April 3).
Against nationally ranked and eventual Big Ten champion Ohio State on April 15, Chafin threw the final 1.1 innings and allowed only one hit to preserve Kent State's 8-7 win over the Buckeyes.
Chafin was also named MAC Freshman of the Year, named to the first team all-conference, was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and also received an invitation to the USA Baseball Team Trials.
