KENT, Ohio -- Associate Athletic Director for Medical Services John Faulstick arrived at the Dix Stadium training room Saturday, June 27 thinking he was running an errand. Much to his surprise, he was attending a party held in his honor.
Many of Faulstick's family, friends, and colleagues packed the Dix Stadium training room and Varsity “K” Room to thank the 29-year Kent State family member for his service to the university. The Dix Stadium training room will now bear Faulstick's name as a tribute to his tenure at KSU.
A group of Kent State alumni also raised $4,900 to send Faulstick, who will retire in August, and his wife, Michele, on vacation.
Faulstick was inducted into the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association (OATA) Hall of Fame in May. He has been at Kent State since 1980 when he came on board as the head athletic trainer, while also serving as an instructor in the undergraduate athletic training education program. In 2001, he was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director, and the following year Faulstick was inducted into the Kent State “Varsity K” Hall of Fame. He was promoted to his current title in 2007.
Prior to coming to Kent State, Faulstick was an athletic trainer and instructor at Ball State from 1977 to 1980. He was inducted into the Ball State Athletic Training “Ring of Honor” Hall of Fame in 2003. He was also named the OATA Athletic Trainer of the Year in the College/University Division in 2000.
Faulstick earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State in 1976 and a Master of Science degree from West Virginia in 1977. He and Michele reside in Rootstown and are the parents of two adult children, Andrew and Erin.
