NCAA All-time Strikeout/7 innings Leaders
KENT, Ohio - Upon the conclusion of the 2009 softball season, the NCAA released its final statistical rankings, which included Kent State's Kylie Reynolds (Greensboro, Ga./Morgan County) finishing sixth in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings (10.2).
The distinction was nothing new to Reynolds, who finished third in that same category as a freshman in 2007 and 18th in 2008. But with 592 career innings pitched, she can now see just how well she stacks up against the greatest strikeout pitchers in NCAA history.
On an elite all-time list that is topped by three-time USA Softball Player of the Year Cat Osterman (Texas), followed by 2008 NCAA Player of the Year Angela Tincher (Virginia Tech), Reynolds ranks ninth with 10.4 strikeouts per game. Reynolds and Danielle Lawrie (Washington), the 2009 USA Softball Player of the Year are the only two current players in the top 10.
The only other Mid-American Conference pitcher in the top 50 is Amber Puchalski (t-31st) who threw for Central Michigan from 2001-04. Puchalski is also the only other pitcher in MAC history with more strikeouts than Reynolds.
With 879 punch-outs in three seasons, Reynolds became KSU's career strikeout leader at the 2009 MAC Tournament and needs just 92 more to pass Puchalski as the MAC's career leader. A two-time Conference Pitcher of the Year, Reynolds has earned All-MAC First Team honors in three straight seasons. She has also amassed 59 career wins, 23 shutouts and 10 saves.
Reynolds and the Golden Flashes finished 15-6 in conference play in 2009 and captured their fourth straight East Division title.
