Kent State Athletics Suspended in 1943 When Military Came to Campus
Intercollegiate athletics on the Kent campus were suspended when the 336th College Training Detachment of the Army Corps was called into duty in 1943. The Kent Stater announced in March that 500 cadets would be based at the university.
In addition to the interruption athletics faced, there were changes in different areas across campus. Dormitories were filled with military trainees, and many female students had to find off-campus housing because they were not allowed to stay in the same buildings as male cadets. The university also implemented several educational programs for the military members.
