CLEVELAND -- Kent State junior middle blocker Liva Brivule (Riga, Latvia) has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office today (Oct. 11).
Brivule helped the Golden Flashes earn two key MAC East road victories last weekend, as KSU downed Miami, 3-1, last Friday (Oct. 8) and swept Bowling Green, 3-0, Saturday (Oct. 9). KSU won at both Miami and Bowling Green in the same season for the first time since 2003.
Brivule led the Flashes with a combined 40 kills -- including a career and team season-best 24 at Miami -- for a personal hitting percentage of .337. Brivule leads the squad with 288 kills (3.60 per set, ranking fourth in the MAC) and 16 service aces this season. She is pacing the Golden Flashes on the defensive end with 80 blocks (seven solo, 73 assisted) and is averaging 1.00 blocks per set, which ranks fourth in the MAC. Brivule is also fourth in the conference in points per set with 4.34.
The Golden Flashes take on two MAC West opponents as they continue their four-match road trip, traveling to Toledo next Friday (Oct. 15) and Ball State Saturday (Oct. 16). Both match start times are scheduled for 7 p.m.
