After releasing its Top 50 Centennial Memories, KentStateSports.com asked for fan feedback and our favorite answer came from Jim DeVincentis:
Although men's swimming is no longer a varsity sport at KSU (since 1989), in the 1970s it was the dominant sport on campus. At that time no varsity sport had put together a string of multiple Mid-American Conference Championships.
The men's team won three MAC championships in a row from 1972-74, then won two in a row in 1976 and 1977. The Golden Flashes won another MAC Championship in 1979, giving them six titles in eight years.
There are six swimmers in the Varsity "K" Athletic Hall of Fame. Five of them were part of these championship teams. The lone exception is Les Moore ( '70 ), who won multiple individual MAC championships and was a Division I All-American.
