CLEVELAND - Kent State senior Heather Duhon (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) was named Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week on Friday. A business management and marketing major, Duhon carries a 3.40 cumulative grade point average.
Starting at second base for the third straight season, Duhon helped the Golden Flashes finish 5-0 at Marshall's Holiday Inn-vitational last weekend by hitting .385 with two home runs and five runs batted in. With her team trailing Marshall 2-1 in the seventh inning last Friday, Duhon belted a two-run homer that made the difference in KSU's 3-2 victory.
The next day, with her team up one run (6-5) against Delaware, Duhon smacked a solo home run in the sixth inning to help the Flashes to a 7-5 victory. She carried a .467 on-base percentage for the weekend and an .846 slugging percentage. Duhon also stole a base and had a key unassisted double play to end a Delaware rally with two runners on.
An All-MAC Second Team selection as a sophomore, Duhon is currently tied for second on the team with three home runs and tied for third on the team with six runs scored.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
