RADFORD, Va. - Kent State's seven-game winning streak came to an end Sunday, dropping a pair of games to host Radford at the Highlander Classic. Radford edged the Golden Flashes 3-1 in the opener and completed the two-game sweep with a 6-0 victory.
In game one, senior Kylie Reynolds held the Highlanders scoreless for three frames before Radford smacked a pair of solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Later in the fifth, a KSU throwing error gave the Highlanders a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Beth Cinadr put the Flashes on the board with a two-out solo homer to left field, her fourth of the season. KSU brought the tying run to plate in the seventh with one out, but Radford starter Chelsea Kelly retired the next two batters to earn her ninth win of the year.
Reynolds allowed two earned runs in seven innings, struck out 10 and walked one. Cinadr went 2-for-3 in the opener. Both Reynolds and Cinadr were named to the all-tournament team.
In game two, Kellie Snooks threw a no-hitter for the Highlanders, who improved to 13-8 on the year. Her only base runner allowed was an error in the game's first at bat.
A walk and a dropped fly ball began a four-run second for the Highlanders, who also recorded four hits in the inning. Radford added runs in the third and fourth innings against Markie Pozzuto and Maleeya Coleman.
Only one of Pozzuto's five runs allowed were earned. Coleman permitted just two hits in 3.2 innings of relief.
Making its final non-conference weekend trip of the year, Kent State returns to action Friday, March 26 at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The Flashes will play six games over three days in Conway, S.C.
