Kent State Athletics Give Back on National Day of Service

On Saturday, April 17, Kent State student-athletes and athletic trainers went out into the community and participated in the National Day of Service. Here are some of the activities various teams did in support of the Kent community:
Athletic Trainers - Helped sort and
organize donations for re-distribution to people of need at St.
Bernard's Church.
Baseball - Although the team had a weekend
full of competition April 16-18, the team will be collecting toys
for the Toys for Tots organization in the near future.
Women's Basketball - Attended the KSU
baseball game on Saturday to collect donations for Relay for Life.
The players hosted a cornhole tournament at the game to raise
money.
Field Hockey - Assembled care packages to be
sent to United States military personnel currently stationed
throughout the world.
Golf - Both teams welcomed the First Tee of
Akron to campus April 14. Along with hosting a pizza party, the
teams gave kids one-on-one training at the KSU Golf Center.
Gymnastics - Did a clothing drive throughout
the week for the Miller House, a homeless shelter in Kent.
Soccer - Visited the Hattie Larlham Center
for Children with Disabilities in Mantua.
Softball - After a weekend of competition,
the softball team will be collecting money for the American Cancer
Society at their April 30-May 2 games. The team will also be
holding a kids clinic on Tuesday, April 20 with all proceeds
benefiting the American Cancer Society.
Track & Field - Out of town on the
weekend, the track and field squad continues its clothing drive
through Saturday, April 24. Donations will then be given to
Goodwill in Kent.
Volleyball - Aided in the clean up of trash
with the Portage Area Clean Water Group along the riverbanks of the
Cuyahoga River in downtown Kent.
Wrestling - Assisted Habitat for Humanity
with a deconstruction project. The team helped with the removal of
items such as flooring, cabinetry and appliances from a home for
resale at Habitat ReStore in Kent.
