OHRID, Macedonia – Tamzin Barroilhet, a
sophomore-to-be on the Kent State women's basketball team, is
currently participating in the FIBA U-20 European Championship,
hosted by F.Y.R. of Macedonia.
Barroilhet, a native of Sainte-Maxime, France, has dual citizenship
and plays internationally for Great Britain. This summer marks the
fourth year of international play for Barroilhet after playing for
the U-18 squad in 2007 and 2008 as well as last year's stint
with the U-20 team.
Through four games of group-stage play, Barroilhet and Great
Britain finished 3-1 in Group B and qualified for the quarterfinals
of the B Division tournament. Great Britain is set to take on
Israel Friday, July 23 in the quarterfinal round.
Against the host squad from Macedonia, Barroilhet shone bright in
the game's final moments. A putback bucket inside of a minute
remaining and a pair of free throws with 36 seconds left in the
contest gave Barroilhet 10 points on the day and aided Great
Britain to a 70-69 win on Monday. The victory punched Great
Britain's ticket into the quarterfinals.
After winning their first three games, Great Britain dropped a
72-58 decision to unbeaten Czech Republic Tuesday afternoon. Great
Britain started group play with a 61-42 win over Belgium and then
followed with a 54-50 victory against Hungary.
