"Iron Man" Joseph Begala's 39-Year Wrestling Tenure

Joseph Begala came to Kent State in 1929 as the wrestling coach and remained the coach for the next 39 seasons.
During his career, Begala guided the Flashes to a 282-68-5 record. His teams posted undefeated seasons in 1935 and '36. Among the awards he received during his career was the Croix of Chavalier of FILA in 1967. Begala was inducted into the national "Helm's Hall of Fame" in 1969.
In addition to his wrestling duties, he served the United States Navy during World War II before being discharged as a lieutenant commander.
