No. 11 Kent State Ties Brigham Young For First Place at Quad Meet

CLEVELAND -- The No. 11 ranked Kent State gymnastics team tied Brigham Young for first place at its home-away-from-home quad meet Friday (Jan. 21) at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland.
The host Golden Flashes (4-0-1) matched the Cougars with 194.775 points and bested George Washington (190.775) and Wisconsin-Oshkosh (181.775). Kent State won on the vault (49.175) and balance beam (48.575), tied BYU for first on the uneven bars (49.050) and finished second to the Cougars on the floor exercise (47.975).
Senior Christina Lenny (Broadview Heights, Ohio) had a huge meet in her own backyard. She won the all-around title with 39.150 points after winning on the vault (9.900), uneven bars (9.875 -- a new personal best) and finishing third on the floor exercise (9.750). Lenny's performance marked the second straight week she won the all-around and the vault titles.
Freshman Marie Case (Erie, Pa.) took second in the all-around with 38.600 points. She tied junior Brianna Skiffington (Lumberton, N.J. ) for first place on the balance beam with 9.775 points -- a new career best for Skiffington. Case also placed second on the vault with a 9.850 and recorded a 9.800 to finish in a five-way tie that included Kent State senior Christine Abou-Mitri (Broadview Heights, Ohio) for fifth on the uneven bars. Case's marks on the vault and uneven bars were career bests. Abou-Mitri also tallied a 9.750 to finish in a three-way tie for fourth on the balance beam.
Sophomore Lauren Wozniak (Pittsburgh, Pa.) posted a second-place finish on the floor exercise with a 9.775 She also finished in a three-way tie that included Kent State freshman Nikki Moore (Columbus, Ohio) for third on the vault. Both set new career highs with their 9.825 scores.
Sophomore Lindsay Runyan (Maineville, Ohio) recorded a 9.850 to take third on the uneven bars.
Junior Rachel Goldenberg (Doylestown, Pa.) tied for sixth on the vault with a score of 9.775 while sophomore Rachel Guida (Cumberland, R.I.) totaled a 9.750 to tie for eighth.
The Golden Flashes head north for a tri-meet at Michigan with Illinois-Chicago and Maryland on Jan. 29.
