Golden Flashes return to action at home tomorrow against Ball State
KENT, Ohio — The Kent State field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision at the hands of Mid-American Conference foe Miami on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon at Murphy-Mellis Field.
The Golden Flashes (3-8; 1-1 MAC) had one more shot and one more corner attempt than the Redhawks (4-8; 2-1 MAC), but it was a pair of goals from Miami's Olivia Miller that proved to be the difference.
The Redhawks leading scorer, Miller returned to action after missing the past three games. She started things off less than two minutes into the game scoring with a shot from deep along the right baseline.
In the 20th minute Kent State drew even when a broken Miami corner led to a fast break opportunity for the Golden Flashes. Senior Debbie Bell (Hamilton, New Zealand) raced up the left sideline with the ball before delivering a long pass to the top of the circle to sophomore Rebecca Lee (Bathurst, Australia). Lee came through with her fourth goal of the year.
The score stayed tied at 1-1 until the 47th minute when Miami drew a corner and Miller scored from inside the left post.
The Golden Flashes drew four of their nine corner opportunities in the final seven minutes, but were unable to find the back of the cage.
Kent State returns to action tomorrow at home against Ball State. First pass back at 1:00 pm.
