KENT, Ohio – Fresh off one of the program's best seasons on the field in team history, the Kent State University women's soccer team was cited for its success academically this week by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
In the NSCAA's release of the Team Academic Top 25, the Golden Flashes were ranked 17th nationally with a team grade-point average of 3.519 for the 2010-11 academic year.
The top-25 ranking marked the third consecutive season Kent State was among the nation's top soccer programs academically. In both 2008-09 and 2009-10, Kent State was ranked in the top 10 by the NSCAA according to team GPA.
Kent State was one of six Mid-American Conference teams recognized for their academic achievement in 2010-11. Central Michigan, Toledo, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan joined Kent State among the nation's academically elite, making the MAC by far the most represented conference among the top 25.
Teams are eligible for the NSCAA's Team Academic Award if the squad has a composite team grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The nominating coach must be a member of the NSCAA to be considered.
