Johl and Lee named First Team, Bell and Hofmann named Second Team
KENT, Ohio – Kent State was represented by four individuals on the 2011 All-Mid-American Conference team as the league office released its 2011 postseason awards as voted upon by the league coaches. Earning honors for the Golden Flashes were first team selections Carla Johl (Hamilton, New Zealand) and Rebecca Lee (Bathurst, Australia) along with second team selections Debbie Bell (Hamilton, New Zealand) and Julia Hofmann (Bad Muenster, Germany).
Playing her final season in a Kent State uniform, Johl was named to the first team following second team accolades in 2008 and 2010. A versatile defender, the senior electronic media major has played every minute of every game the past two years. Johl has scored five goals this season, but has been at her best when the team needed her most producing a team high three game winning goals. Two of her game winners came in overtime last weekend as the Golden Flashes wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament.
A sophomore, Lee also earns first team recognition this season following her MAC Freshman of Year campaign in 2010. A pivotal part of the Kent State offense, she was second on the team with seven goals scored while also adding two assists this year.
The leading scorer in the MAC, Bell lands on the second team in 2011 after producing a league high 20 goals and 45 total points (20 goals - 5 assists). She has produced six multi-goal games on the year and also ranks ninth in the country with 1.05 goals scored per game.
The only MAC player selected for the NFHCA Senior All-Star game earlier this week, Bell has been one of the most prolific scorers in NCAA history scoring 96 career goals. Her goal total ranks 11th all-time in the NCAA record book while her 212 total points are tied for 14th all-time.
Freshman Julia Hofmann completes the All-MAC selections for Kent State by joining Bell on the second team. Hofmann had an immediate impact with the Golden Flashes this year and came on strong at the end of the regular season scoring a goal in each of the final three games. She heads into the MAC Tournament with five goals and one assist.
The Golden Flashes (7-12; 5-5 MAC) return to action on Friday at 2:30 p.m. when they face the winner of Central Michigan-Missouri State game in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament.
