The Kent State women's basketball team returns to the M.A.C. Center Wednesday (Nov. 30) to take on 2010-11 WNIT participant St. Bonaventure. Tip time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Stop by the Athletic Ticket Office in the M.A.C. Center or call (330) 672-2244 for more information.
The Golden Flashes (1-4) looking to get back in the win column following an 0-2 finish at Northern Arizona’s Hilton Garden Inn Thanksgiving Classic in Flagstaff, Ariz., last weekend, suffering a tough 46-45 loss to Utah Valley State Friday (Nov. 25) before dropping a 72-56 decision to the host Lumberjacks the following day.

The NCAA released its first statistical rankings report of the season Monday (Nov. 28), and the Golden Flashes are currently 11th in the country in free-throw percentage, converting at an 81.3% rate from the charity stripe. Junior center Leslie Schaefer (Verona, Wis.) is tied with four others for 25th in the nation in freebie shots with a 92.9% success rate (minimum 2.5 free-throws made per game).

If recent Nov. 30 history is any indication, Kent State fans should expect an extra helping of post-Thanksgiving basketball at the M.A.C. Center. Kent State’s last two games played on the final day of the 11th month of the year have gone into overtime. The Golden Flashes outlasted Seattle, 89-77, in 2008 at the Washington Huskie Classic in Seattle, two years after upsetting Washington, 81-78 at the M.A.C. Center.

Kent State fell to host Northern Arizona, 72-56, last Saturday (Nov. 26) in the final game of the Hilton Garden Inn Thanksgiving Classic.
The Golden Flashes went 0-2 in the Classic and fell to 0-2 all-time against Northern Arizona. Freshman guard Itziar Llobet (Sant Cugat de Valles, Spain) was named to the All-Classic Team, leading the Flashes with 25 points in two games.
Schhaefer and freshman guard Jamie Hutcheson (Ancaster, Ontario) led Kent State with 12 points apiece, each achieving career highs. They were joined in double figures by Llobet, who scored 11 points. She has reached double digits in each of the last three games. Junior guard Trisha Krewson (Sandusky, Ohio) hauled in a team-high seven rebounds (one offensive, six defensive).

Kent State suffered a tough loss in its opening game of Northern Arizona’s Hilton Garden Inn Thanksgiving Classic, falling to Utah Valley, 46-45, last Friday (Nov. 25).
The Golden Flashes dropped their first-ever meeting with the Wolverines.
Llobet led all scorers with a career-high 14 points. Junior guard Tamzin Barroilhet (Sainte Maxime, France) joined Llobet in double figures, scoring a season-high 10 points. Schaefer hauled in a career-high seven rebounds (three offensive, four defensive) while junior forward Diamon Beckford (Upper Darby, Pa.) swiped a career-high five steals.

• The Golden Flashes and Bonnies meet for the second straight season. Kent State leads the all-time series, 5-3, but has dropped its last two contests against St. Bonaventure. St. Bonaventure won the last meeting between the squads at the M.A.C. Center, 74-68, on Nov.
11, 2007.
• The Golden Flashes dropped a 67-52 decision to St. Bonaventure at the Reilly Center in Olean, N.Y., on Jan. 2, 2011, in the last matchup between the two programs. Taisja Jones finished with a game-high 18 points, while Ellie Shields added a season-best 16 points.
• Coming off of a WNIT appearance in 2010-11, the Bonnies opened the 2011-12 campaign with three straight road victories -- including a 64-58 season-opening triumph at then-No. 25 St. John’s on Nov. 12 and a 56-48 victory at West Virginia on Nov. 18. St. Bonaventure is coming off of its first loss of the season Sunday (Nov. 27), falling to Delaware, 61-49.
•Senior guard Jessica Jenkins is a career 1,000-point scorer. The Marion, Ohio, native is averaging 13.6 points per game this season. Head coach Jim Crowley is in his 12th season at the helm.
