Women's Soccer Announces Six Additions for 2011

KENT, Ohio — The Kent State University women's soccer team announced Monday (Feb. 14) the addition of six student-athletes for the 2011-12 academic year. Mattie Follen (Moon Township, Pa.), Stephanie Haugh (Richmond Hill, Ontario), Renee Loya (Penn Hills, Pa.), Haillie Price (Ancaster, Ontario), Calli Rinicella (Solon, Ohio) and Mariah Sidwell (London, Ontario) have committed to join the Golden Flashes on the soccer field this fall.
"I believe these quality student-athletes will boost our competitiveness both on the field and, just as importantly, in the classroom," said head coach Rob Marinaro. "We're excited to welcome all of these players to our university and our program. As individual players they are hard-working and dedicated, and we are eager for them to become a part of our program this fall."
Follen, a 5-8 goalkeeper, concluded her senior season at Moon by guiding the Lady Tigers to a WPIAL quarterfinal appearance in 2010. Follen garnered all-sectional honors last fall and aided Moon to three straight sectional titles. At the Olympic Development Program level, Follen was the goalkeeper for the Pennsylvania West team.
Haugh, a 5-5 forward, is a member of the NTC Ontario Training Program and recently trained with the Canadian U-17 National Team. Haugh was a three-year captain for her prep squad, St. Theresa of Lisieux, where the Lions captured the Challenge Cup Championship and were the York Regional champions in 2010. Haugh was also a high school track and field standout, garnering an all-region title in the 800 meter run. At the club level, Haugh competed for the Richmond Hill Raiders, which were three-time Umbro Showcase Tournament champions and captured the consolation title at the 2010 Disney Tournament.
Loya, a 5-8 forward/defender, aided her club team Beadling Soccer Club to a 2010 State Cup semifinals appearance, a Jefferson Cup bracket title and a 2010 Adidas Blue Chip group championship. As a prep at Penn Hills High School, Loya earned all-section honors twice and was an All-WPIAL honoree as a senior in 2010. She also was tabbed as Penn Hills' captain last fall.
Price, a 5-11 forward, aided the Canadian U-17 squad in capturing the gold medal at the 2010 CONCACAF championship in Costa Rica and currently is a member of the NTC Ontario Training Program. Price played club soccer for Burlington Tigers SC where she led her team in scoring. Also a standout in basketball and track, Price was awarded the Melanie Booth Award of Excellence in 2010, which is presented to an athlete with national or Olympic team aspirations native to the Burlington, Ontario area.
Rinicella, a 5-6 midfielder, was a four-year letterwinner at Solon High School, where the Comets advanced to the district finals in both 2009 and 2010. During Rinicella's senior season, Solon posted an 11-4-5 record as she tallied five goals. As a club player for AMFC, Rinicella was a team captain.
Sidwell, a 5-6 defender, was a standout at St. Thomas Aquinas High School as a prep where she was a three-year athletic award winner along with being a standout in track, where she was a provincial qualifier. Sidwell also played club soccer for the North London Soccer Club, where her team finished second in the Ontario Cup in 2009. She was has been an Ontario Provincial player for three years.
The Golden Flashes will continue to shape their roster in preparation for the 2011 fall season.
