INDIANAPOLIS -- The Kent State gymnastics team now knows its NCAA postseason destination.
The Golden Flashes will be the sixth seed in the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional, meeting No. 1 seed Stanford, host No. 2 seed Michigan, No. 3 seed Ohio State, No. 4 seed Iowa State and No. 5 seed Minnesota, as announced by the NCAA today (March 21).
Action will take place April 2 from Michigan's Crisler Arena at 6 p.m.
Kent State, which placed second to host Central Michigan last Saturday (March 19) at the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championships, finished the regular season ranked 24th in the nation as a team with a regional qualifying score of 195.245.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six regions.
The top-18 teams were seeded on a national basis, based on RQS. Teams 19-36 were assigned to a regional site based on geographic proximity. All-around competitors and event specialists were assigned within their respective regions.
In case of ties for the last berth into regional competition and for seeding purposes, the team, all-around competitor or individual event specialist with the highest score, not including the six used for the regional qualifying score, will qualify. If a tie still exists, the process is continued until the tie is broken.
Kent State University and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission will host the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Gymnastics Championships in Cleveland from April 15-17 at the Wolstein Center. Tickets are now on sale and start at just $15 for individual sessions or $36 for all session passes. Discounted group rates for ten or more adults and/or youth tickets are also available. Â For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.ncaa.com/wgym or call the Cleveland Wolstein Center box office at 216-687-4848.
