Kent State Baseball Steps Out Of Conference Play For Two-Game Set Against Youngstown State

Kent State takes on Youngstown State in a home-and-home series Tuesday (April 12) at Olga A. Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium and Wednesday (April 13) in Youngstown, Ohio. Both games are set to begin at 3 p.m.
Kent State has won nine straight overall -- including seven Mid-American Conference wins in a row -- to maintain its hold on the top spot in the quest for the overall conference crown with his performance over the last five games last week.
Last week, the Golden Flashes won two midweek games -- one at Penn State (7-6, April 5) and one against Pittsburgh (9-5, April 6) before sweeping past MAC West Division foe Eastern Michigan (4-2, April 8; 1-0, April 9; 8-5, April 10) at Olga A. Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium.
Kent State baseball junior third baseman Travis Shaw (Washington Court House, Ohio) has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office April 11.
Shaw hit .450 with nine hits -- including three doubles and a home run -- and four RBIs. After hitting .230 through the first 22 games of the season, Shaw is hitting .438 with 14 hits -- including five doubles and two homers -- with six RBIs. He went 3-for-4 – including a double -- with a run scored in the win at Penn State and finished the three-game set against Eastern Michigan hitting .385 with five hits -- including a double and a round tripper -- with four RBIs.
The Flashes to conference action with a three-game road trip at Central Michigan next weekend (April 15-17).
