Flashes' East Division Lead Narrows

OXFORD, Ohio - Kent State holds just a half-game lead in the East Division standings after falling to Miami 4-0 Sunday afternoon. Relief pitcher Lauren McNeil kept the RedHawks scoreless after the first inning, but Miami strung together six straight hits in the opening frame to bring home four runs.
The Golden Flashes lead the log jam in the East at 6-5, just ahead of Miami (7-7) and Ohio (6-6) with Buffalo (5-7) not far behind.
After missing two weeks of action, Alex Marcantonio returned, going 2-for-2 with a walk. Beth Cinadr continued to hit the ball well, going 2-for-3, but Kent State left eight runners on base and was held without an extra base hit. Cinadr and Marcantonio led off the fourth with singles, but never reached third base. The Flashes also left two on in the second.
RedHawk pitcher Jessica Simpson went the distance for the second straight day.
The Golden Flashes (16-24, 6-5 MAC) look to end their losing skid Friday, hosting a doubleheader against Akron at 1 p.m.
