Kent State Baseball's Lyon Garners MAC East Division Player of the Week Honors

CLEVELAND --Â Kent State junior catcher David Lyon (Emporium, Pa.) has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office today (May 2).
Lyon had a huge week for Kent State, collecting 10 hits – including three doubles, a triple and a home run and six RBIs. He was was a double shy of hitting for the cycle while collecting five hits in Kent State's 11-3 win at Ohio last Friday (April 29). He also called the pitching and defensive signals as Kent State limited Cleveland State and Ohio to a combined eight runs in four games -- including a 4-0 shutout of the Bobcats last Saturday (April 29), which was the team's seventh shutout of the season.
This marks the 10th time this season a Kent State baseball player has garnered one of the conference's weekly awards and second time Lyon has done so.
Kent State has won 22 of its last 26 games and seven straight. The Flashes have won at least 30 games for the 13th straight season and 24th time in the last 28 years – including all seven seasons current head coach Scott Stricklin has been at the helm. Kent State has swept its first two MAC East Division series of 2011 and has won five of six conference series this season to maintain its grip on the overall conference lead.
Kent State takes on second-place Miami in a showdown between the top teams in the MAC East Division next weekend (May 6-8) at Olga A. Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium.
