CHICAGO -- Former Kent State baseball right-handed pitcher Chris Carpenter has been called up to the major leagues by the Chicago Cubs.
Drafted by the Cubs in the third round of the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, Carpenter posted the eighth-most strikeouts (88) in a single season in school history in 2008 en route to being named Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Year and earning First Team All-MAC and First Team Academic All-MAC selection. Carpenter was also drafted by the New York Yankees in the 18th round of the 2007 draft but opted to return to the Golden Flashes for the '08 campaign.
The Bryan, Ohio native was promoted to the big leagues after posting a 3-2 mark with a 5.36 ERA in the minors in 2011 while spending parts of the season with both Triple-A Iowa and Double-A Tennessee.
